You know something, i'm sick of these bad critic reviews of Dragonball Evolution...  angry  They all seem to either ignore or forget the point of this film.

It is made for kiddies - 5-10 year old kids, not adults or even teenagers.  It wasn't meant to be 'Gone with the Wind' or 'Lord of the Rings' but a film version of anime, comics, for heavens sake!
Some comics translate better into film and do quite well, look at 'Iron Man' - though that succeed because of Robert Downey and the well-done special effects.  DBE doesn't have a single Name star, apart from Chow Yun Fat and no disrespect to him, but he's not THAT well known in the West.

From what i've read so far, DBE seems it has reached it's target audience well - what they make of it really is immaterial, not every one would have loved any of the Dragonball incarnations.  You need to be a fan of anime.

Personally, i have never liked Japanese cartoons as they rarely translate well into English, with all that huffing and puffing which made them ludicrous and so posey!  i mean, you could make anyone laugh with a spoof of most of the stuff that came out of that part of the world...  Some of the adult films fare little better, although nowadays they are translated with more sympathy but even 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon', whilst a very popular film, wasn't exactly Shakespeare, was it?  All that flying about on wires, running over the top of trees - i mean, i ask you!  If that's not story telling on the simplest level aimed at youth, i don't know what is.

Take DBE for what it was intended to be, children's entertainiment and enjoy!

I agree with you on the negative reviews that DBE has been recieving. Even before it's release the fan sites were full of negatives regarding the film. Some were saying the film doesn't do the anime justice, others that Piccolo looked nothing like the animated one, that they should not have gotten American stars to portray the heroes, etc etc etc ... Some have even said that James should never have gotten the part? Why the hell not? He would never have gotten the part if he wasn't good enough as an actor and if he had not of been what the director etc, were looking for.

Fair enough, maybe there are some die hard fans that grew up on it and still watch/read it, but how about shutting the hell up and giving the film a chance. It has a large audience but as you say, is mainly aimed at the younger market. I'm not one for this type of film, I have never seen DB anime or read the comics, but I'm willing to go see it.

I have to say that my son has expressed his desire to watch the film himself and is excited that it is released here today and I'll be taking him to see it.
For me it is a big deal. Luke being autistic means he rarely shows an interest in anything and is scared of new experiences and anything loud. But he's determined to see DBE.

He's counting down the days... literally!!
I have taken the precaution of buying those foam earplugs so if it is too loud, I can pop them in rather than leave half way through the film. He knows that Piccolo is James and that as he told his friends, 'the man my mummy goes to see'. So now all his friends think I'm like some sort of goddess.. lol They're all like 'wow, you know piccolo'

Um yeah..

So now I have to get James to autograph a photo of him as Piccolo for Luke to show his friends. It is a shame that James doesn't personally sign, as I would love to get Luke one. His face would be a picture!

Check your local cinema listings - mine have come in today - Weds & Thurs next 8-9th April... 3 shows each day.

Ask James at the Marstersclass - he may personalise then? But i'm betting he would anyway if you explained, had a picture and leaned over the table!!
*sniggers* i'll lean in from the otherside, taking pictures! So that even if he won't, Luke can get a picture of his Mummy TALKING to James/Piccolo!
LOL
