Physio day - Wednesday 18th March 09

Yes, so, it's physio day today...  one more to go after today.

My spine has been acting up this last week, so not been doing the exercises as much as i should...  Which would account for the reluctance to go to physio today [apart from being bone lazy!].  But i needed to get out for the fresh air, walking there and back and the exercise.
i did the warm up exercises the main physio has us do all together and then worked through my list.  Side-by-side steps, knee bends, knee pushes [against a strip of rubber/plastic, like using the clutch in a car], stepping back & forth to work the ankle & foot, sit-to-stands and so on.  i try and do five more each time, or at least the same as last time and work on the proviso that when it starts to hurt, stop.

i hadn't had the knee bend and extension measured for three weeks, so today i did.   Last time - 76 degrees bend and about 10-11 degrees extension.
Today, i was measured at 82 degrees bend!!  YAY me!  And what put the icing on the cake, extension down to 6 degrees!!  Fan-frickin-tastic!  It doesn't sound like much but it IS a big deal - if i can straighten the leg out as much as possible, i walk much more normally inspite of this damned rigid ankle.  Ok, i may always need a stick for outside walking and i may not be able to walk as far, or as quickly, as i used to but it will be a hellova lot better than it was a year ago.  i'll look relatively normal until i get to a flight of stairs.  i will always be going down one step at a time, can't avoid that but i'll be able to climb more or less normally eventually and if i can get as much bend as possible, all the better.

i walked home feeling a lot better and considerably happier than when i set out - so a good job done!

i'm in the process of having a 'domestic' today - got the bed stripped and a load of washing in and a second lined up - exciting stuff, huh??  Better to mention that next week on Thursday is the third episode that James did for 'Without a Trace' - 'One Wrong Move' and that's showing at 11pm on More 4 and the last one 'Article 32' will be three weeks after that.  No wonder James went off to do other things!!  He wasn't in it every week for his 'arc' or exactly over used, was he?

Still a few weeks until we get the new 'Numb3rs' episode on Channel 5.   What else do we have? Buffy Season 7 is currently re-running daily on FX at 2pm & 5pm [same episode] and last week, James' epi of 'Millenium' aired and so did 'PSILY' - so he is still reaching the general viewing public, even if it is not on the biggest channels.   Mind you, the current series of 'CSI'  is showing on a Tuesday on Channel 5 at 9pm, so it's all relative, i guess.  About a second cousin in James' case, unfortunately!!

i'm still doing my council tennant stuff and taking every opportunity to check out all the different meetings you can go to.  On Monday was the explanation of the TSA [Tenants Service Association] survey, or rather the one they had commissioned, and a whole load of people turned up to hear the results.  i was pleased to see lot of the people who carry out services for tenants came, as most of them are not tenants and thus not part of the survey.   i wear both hats, so was interested in results from both sides, as it were.  The main conclusion is that Cambridge Council are doing a good job and in most instances, tenant satisfaction has increased with the job they're doing.  The few areas that could stand improvement were immediately apparant but even there, it wasn't a life & death situation or showing a large percentage having problems.
What we have to bear in mind are the actual survey numbers.  We have over 7000 tenants and approximately 3300 surveys were sent out - now they want at least 1000 to get an accurate mix on percentage and due to saturation mailing - a staggering three times in some instances!  Luckily, they just exceeded the needed number and got 34% response.   So, end result, we are looking at a rise from 73% of that total to 79%, for instance, who were happy with Council performance on repairs.   A 6% rise over a two year period, since the last survey in 2006.  Good result, which was carried pretty well throughout the whole Survey.
Yesterday, i went to the Northern area meeting for tenants and i will go to my own area, South Side Partnership when they have the next one in April.  Tenants can come along and request work be done on roads, check on cleaning services or whatever needs to be done over and above what they have already asked their local Housing Officer for and ask for results if too much time has elapsed since their initial query or request.   People from the Council come along and explain why such things have not been done or report progress on the same.

You do get some sweet old biddy who will rabbit on at length if you let her/him but usually the Chair keeps them brief.  It is good to see that if you are concerned over the potholes in the path outside your flat or house, or whatever it is that is bothering you, can be sorted [within the money allocated] or at least an explanation why it is taking so long.   We all pay for services and are entitled to have them carried out.   i find it interesting to hear just what is of concern to tenants and what they are prepared to do to report them - up to walking round with a Ranger or similar man from the Council to point out problem areas.  Yay them!

i'm also looking at getting more involved with resident-involvement issues, both for Cambridge and also the Eastern area.  More to come on that, but a bunch of us will be doing a lot more work on the Cambridge side in the coming year at least.

*peers at F-list*  You'all still awake there??   :D   Yeah, it's interesting and in some cases, vital to me but kinda boring if you aren't involved in it.   *pets F-list*

i'm going to have a sweet, crunchy Fuji apple now and watch 'Holmes on Homes' - fascinating watching this man repairing bad work on houses... kinda following the Cinderella principle, i guess!  Love watching people work...  :D
Enjoy the sun, guys!

Sounds like things are busy, and the knee is healing well!

I really enjoy Holmes on Homes too - I like how infuriated he gets on the homeowner's behalf.

Holmes really is a pet, isn't he? He deserves the hugs and kisses from his homeowners. And have you seen those arm muscles?? What a doll! *more Hulk than Barbie's Ken!!*

i need outside stimulus for sure and this council housing stuff does concern me, being a tenant. i'm always amazed that more of us are not involved - seems they only want contact when something goes wrong and then they complain they don't know who to go to! That is actually one of my complaints about the Council, that more information needs to be given to new tenants, when they move in.
i had a woeful lack of same as my ILF was on a course/off on holiday/off sick for several months! The subs didn't know i'd had so little information and i didn't know to ask. It took me a week to find the laundry, never mind what services were available! :D

i know all the Council stuff is boring if you aren't part of it - but you at least should be in council housing and i'm sure you qualify for sheltered housing? Can you manage on your own?

i try and keep up with where James is showing next but i missed the Millenium epi [except for the last two minutes of James] because the title wasn't advertised. *grinds teeth*

i missed out on the WAT episodes completely at the time, especially as it wasn't running here and being able to catch up now is great. It can be quite a chore to wade through all the channels trying to find what you are interested in.

Are you coming to any of the Mayday things, Ditto? It's been a long time since i've seen you...

I find the 'council stuff' quite interesting! I love the minutae and stuff of ordinary lives and you don't get any ordinarier than council stuff lol. I do already have a council house, in fact I've been lucky enough to have had a fair few but have passed them on to family...the one I'm in at the mo is a three bed and it needs to be passed onto my sister and we're waiting to hear about that. If I ever get so I can't manage on my own I've already got in mind where I want to go..Butler Court run by Anchor Housing, it's a fabulous place where they have days out and a hairdresser every week and coffee mornings, plus communal jigsaw ;) and everything...my auntie and cousin are there now and me and sisters join them for allsorts. Had a smashing time at the Christmas parties. :D

I only saw one WAT episode, but I'd like to own them anyways and buy them on DVD eventually if possibly. I daren't watch the Millenium episode which I have on disc or I'll be blubbing the day away. :(

I can't get to see James this year, but I'm not worried. I shall be there in spirit and enjoy all the reports and piccies from the fen. :D Next year hopefully, or the year after. I want him to keep going till he's 90...oh no hang on, I'm older than him by far...make that 80 and I'll be 90ish. :D

oh good, glad to see you have housing 'in hand' and sorted... Can be a worry. i did have good news about this place on Monday.
Several of us were standing in the garden having a goss when we were joined by a couple of the ILFs and i discovered that when we get shifted out of here [we're due for renovation around 2011, probably at least partially sold off] we stand to get some compensation/moving[?] money. i knew that Council would be responsible for finding me somewhere else to go and for moving me but this was news. And kept close to the Council breast, as it were! Couple? of thousand apparently, could be more. It may be a sliding scale for how long you've lived here but there wasn't a mention of it though - it would inconvenience us all equally. That'd be handy, wouldn't it...
Primary Care lease part of this complex and they have been given notice to move next year, so it has started.
We have to conform to the Best? Housing, i think it's called - minimum standard anyway, which now says one bedroom is the minimum and we are all? bedsits. So i knew coming in last year, i'd have to move again. They've put it back a year since i moved in but i thought, that's three years - don't care anyway. i wanted to stay in this area for several reasons but some of my circumstances have changed recently and as long as i don't have to go out to Deepest North Arbury or Outer Cherry Hinton, i'm not THAT picky where i go. Just need bus stop not too far away walking.
i wish you could go to see James this year - would you like something signing, that i can take for you? Or would you like me & James to wave to you in a picture? :D

That's really exciting. I love moving. You could end up with something exceedingly nice...hold out for a place you really like (and near a bus-stop). :) Thank you so much for offering the signing thing. I know what I would like if you possibly could? If there's no rush with getting things signed or limit or whathaveyou...if you had time? I post you my pic of James and me and the signing money and you say to him very quickly so as not to use your time up "She can't come but still adores you!" or words to that affect? Heee, that's funny isn't it? I'm a nut! You don't have to really...I'm just worried in case he thinks I don't love him anymore. ;)

i'll definitely hold out for somewhere near public transport, for sure!

Sure, no problem on the signing thing - just send me the pic [give me your email and i'll send my street address] and i'll be happy to get it done for you. And i will tell him you still love him, don't worry. i pass on messages for Char all the time, 'cos i know how you both feel as i feel it too.
Sue was sweet enough to take my pic with him to the QM con and she had him hold it for a photo while he blew me a kiss! i'll love her forever for that...

That's wonderful of Sue. :) I'll send my piccie tootsweet with my snailmail addy. :D If you say it's the fat shy one he might remember me. ;)
Apr. 2nd, 2009 11:56 pm (UTC)
i will not! Sweet shy one maybe but he'll see the photo and know who you are, silly...
