Council Rents increase in Cambridge

Just had a letter from the Council this morning, my Council Housing rent has gone up £10.73 PER WEEK inc charges, total of £42.92 per 4 weekly - making it £86.58 per week  - Council tenants must be rich, eh?  Funny how i didn't realise that... Try telling a private let their rent has gone up that much and wait for the explosion!  We knew a price rise was coming but didn't realise it was going to be that much! Just as well i have Housing Benefit, isn't it? From £328.68 [x52div12] to £375.18 per month.  They are also saying it may go up again later...  Thanks a lot.

It costs me £60 a 1/4 to keep my Alarmed status; i moved from Sheltered Accommodation and wanted to keep my status.  This is the only way i can do that, though it's not as comprehensive as Sheltered care.  i will eventually have to move back to a Sheltered scheme, unless they are prepared to alter the flat when i need it.  i'll cross that bridge when i come to it!

Oh joy for a Wednesday morning....

Our rents went up this week too, nearly a £100 a week now. :( If I was lucky enough to have a job, I probably couldn't afford to pay my rent!

Dunno why, but your reply got stuck in my spam filter! Anyway, you do pay more than me but you have a house, don't you? So i think we come out about the same... It's so stupid when they hike up the rent, which you couldn't afford if you didn't have housing benefit. i won't enjoy the full effect of my pension increase either, because my income is now above the maximum tax limit and i have to pay tax on it!! What they need to do now is raise the damn tax limit - wake up, guys!
