Bad weather on the way...

Rain, strong winds and other such nasties forecast, oh joy...  Not that i mind the rain as you know but strong winds can be destructive.  We've already got flooding in some parts; not here though.

i dunno what it is with my rubbish men but they empty my bins just fine most of the time, then BAM! They don't.  i had a run of a couple of weeks like that and had to complain in strong terms, not only about the non-collection but the lackluster response of the female who took my call [almost 'it's-not-important-you're-boring-me-why-don't-you-go-away in tone], and that annoys me most of all.
It wouldn't be so bad but i'm on their 'Empty & Return' list.  Mr P gave me his direct line after all that and yes, you've guessed it, i rang him today - missed again.  Give him a couple of minutes, he said and he'd ring me back.  He rang me about 10 minutes later just after they came back and emptied the bin.  He said - get this piece of total bullshit - they said my gate was closed!  Oooh, said i, somebody is telling you porkies.  It's propped open with a large stone, all the time now.  It would have held more water if they said they couldn't see it, as it was tucked just out of sight inside the little wall.
By the way, i said, will you check and see if i'm still on your E&R list - he already had and yes, i'm still on it.  Even more embarrassing for him - oh dear, said i, so they don't check their instructions either...  well, at least they've emptied it now.  i hope he roasts someone's arse...  If you're doing a paid job, bloody do it and don't be so sodding lazy!

Well, i must go and sort out what i'm wearing this weekend, as
i'm off to the 3rd Vampire Ball down at Heathrow; it's at the Renaissance Hotel and i've booked a Queen [or a Twin - their terminology].  i doubt i'll dress up much though.  As long as i look presentable for the photos, i'll be happy enough.  i will only go to a Con now where i can stay in the same hotel where it's being held; it's way too much of a hassle to cope with taxis and a wheelchair. Not to say, expensive.  Minimum taxi charge anywhere £10 last time i was down there.
i can't stand for long and i can't walk far, also need the chair as there are never enough seats between events and i can sit in it & be comfortable at Q&As.  *packs wheelchair gloves*

Must dye my eyebrows too, tomorrow...  i have three days before i travel down.  Pictures, clever non? And a beautiful Marchesa dress in the Indian style

oh those are beautiful photos, what an elegant idea w/the dancers & flowers! And I love the Indian style dress too...

I'm the same way about conventions: I really want to stay in the convention hotel so I don't have to walk the streets in my costume (if I'm sporting a costume). I'm really looking forward to the next Discworld convention w/Sir Terry Pratchett (I have different costumes for each day!).
Have fun this weekend, and do tell us about it later... I love hearing all about that stuff!

i'm glad you are still enthused enough to do costumes; i must admit i've lost a lot of, shall we say, interest personally. i do still like looking at other peoples and adore masks and silly mustaches. i'd love some of these claws!
i'll take pictures and do a report. Yes, i know i said i'd do one for the Olympics and i'm still doing it - but i did post the photos! Problem is i'm lazy and there's lots of other stuff i can do too :) But, i'll get there.

I don't even try to do costumes for huge crowded comic book type conventions (just some t-shirts is plenty for those), but the Discworld conventions are really like an immersion into the Discworld. All the Brits come with elaborate costumes, and all the US fans who've attended a previous NADWCon are trying to keep up with them, so the experience is like really kind of being there. The banquet is always set up to be like it was straight out of the books, and the cash bar 'hospitality' room always has that feel too. It is so fun to go to, and Terry Pratchett is always so blown away by everyone playing in his world.

I kind of look forward to when someone starts to organize a Game of Thrones/Song of Ice and Fire Convention (although I think everyone is afraid to distract George RR Martin from writing/finishing his series!).

i had a feeling someone had done a GOT themed con but i can't find any details. i know some of the actors have appeared in cons, like London Film & Comic Con. If they could get Sean Bean to go, i would seriously consider attending again! Though i do hate the venue at Earls Court 2; it's all uphill slope going in and a slog on foot or wheelchair. Wish they could use #1.

Apart from Sean, my favourite character is Arya [Maisie Williams], not quite sure why. She is very appealing though and i love tomboy heroines much more than girlie ones - 'stick 'em with the pointy end!'

Oh I love Arya too... actually I love a lot of the characters...
So far all I've heard about it George RR Martin being invited to speak at the big US conventions (like San Diego Comic Con or Dragon Con in Atlanta)... and he ALWAYS accepts (I wish he would spend more time writing). HBO pays his way, and any of the actors who are available, but that ends up being just one panel and a couple of autograph sessions...
But I haven't heard of any specifically GoT/Song of Ice and Fire convention here yet (I'm sure it is only a matter of time). Something centered more on the books instead of the TV show... that's what I would enjoy the most.

Game of Thrones Convention
There was a Game of Thrones convention called Throne Con in Birmingham earlier this year. It had Maisie Williams (Arya), Rory McCann (The Hound), Miltos Yerolemou (Syrio), John Bradley (Sam), Josef Altin (Pyp) and Roxanne McKee (Doreah) along!

They are doing a second one in January and right now Miltos and Rory are coming back, along with Finn Jones (Knight of Flowers), Gemma Whelan (Yara) and Kristian Nairn (Hodor), with more to be announced :-D

Check out www.starfury.co.uk for details :-)
