2013 Reflective Meme

Borrowed KazzyCee's meme... :D
Two terrific paintings by Iris Scott.  She paints with her fingers... yes, with gloves
iris_scott_my_thai_sunbrella Fox Fire by Iris Scott

1. What did you do in 2013 that you'd never done before?

Made some Christmas decorations.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for this coming year?

I don't do NY resolutions, never have that i recall. Not even as a youngster.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

A couple of friends' daughters did, but that's not close really.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

My friend Maribeth Martell [aka Embers on the old James Marsters' boards]

5. What countries did you visit?

i haven't been overseas for simply ages and yes, i do miss it. i love travelling. i will be doing a local trip to Birmingham again [*groan* HATE their train stations. It's such a hike at New St] for a convention, which may prove to be the last one i'll do.

6. What would you like to have in 2014 that you lacked in 2013?

A new bathroom floor [that slopes towards the drain!] and a decent actual underlay for the existing vinyl flooring [i'm not convinced it has any at all] - which as it's Council property, ain't agonna happen! Boo sucks!

7. What date from 2013 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

There wasn't such a memorable date really.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Surviving all the crap that life throws at you - diabetes, high blood pressure, bloody stupid changes in Benefits [thank the gods, it won't affect Pensioners - so far] and nasty problems with my increasingly fragile and diminishing teeth.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not getting on top of loosing weight and not sticking to the proper diet enough *sighs*

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Luckily, no. Had a mercifully short cold towards the end of the year [doctor's waiting rooms!]

11. What was the best thing you bought?

Interesting question - some Kirstie Allsop bed linen on sale, half price on some

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?

'Behaviour' is such a nebulous & odd thing to celebrate - in terms of good will and generosity, i'd have to cite Col. Chris Hadfield. He showed such lovely spirit in taking the time to share his terrific photos of the Earth as he circled in the International Space Station, and did so much to reach and inspire many thousands, maybe millions, of people. And many thanks to his son for enabling this.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

So much that was bad with the Government and PM Cameron's glad handing/promising our money on such STUPID things at the drop of a hat! WITHOUT our permission! If we have that much money lying around available to spend, why is the country in such a bad way???? And, thank the gods, there were enough MPs who listened to their constituents opinions and refused to declare war on Syria.

14. Where did most of your money go?

Household & health bills and food, as usual

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

Nothing - unless you count the fury that threatened to choke me, over the bloody STUPID Government! Wrong kind of excitement, babe!

16. What song will always remind you of 2013?

There wasn't anything really memorable really - amusement that they are still using Led Zeppelin’s 'Kashmir' as the lead-in music for Top of the Pops, how many years later?

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder? a bit sadder, due to the death of a friend and some people i like.

ii. thinner or fatter? little thinner, but way not enough

iii. richer or poorer? about the same, i think, but a small increase in pensions.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Time spent with people i like [here & overseas] and travelling; miss that

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Sitting around on my arse! i'm so lazy... But it's such a luxury to do Nothing Useful

20. How did you spend Christmas?

On my own as normal - but i did take myself out for Christmas Eve lunch @ Jamie's

21. What LJ users did you meet?

None - what kind of a goal is that? i've already met those i follow or who follow me

22. Did you fall in love in 2013?

Not in person - but did develop a crush on Tom Hiddleston - like the rest of the World!

23. How many one-night stands?

Silly question... Who would own up to being a slut??

24. What were your favourite TV programmes?
Kirstie's Handmade Britain, Sherlock, Nigellissima, Elementary, Dr Who, The Tunnel, 2013 World Ice-Skating, programme about Liberty's and By Royal Appointment, Auction Hunters & American Pickers.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?

Don't 'hate' anyone, i'm glad to say. Not that i don't dislike a couple of clods intensely, i do!

26. What was the best book you read?

Hard to say really - best book written isn't necessarily best enjoyed, if you get my drift! i most enjoyed the long await next installment of Sue Grafton's Alphabet series, 'W is for Wasted'

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

How much i dislike Andre Rieu... Long-haired, i-adore-me person - ugh!

28. What did you want and get?

Not sure this qualifies exactly but i needed quick surgery on my face and got it, very successfully.

29. What did you want and not get?

Some Alice-in-Wonderland earrings that i put off buying until the following week, so yes, the ones i wanted had gone. You'd think i'd learned by now, wouldn't you? See it, really like it, get it or it's gone, sure as eggs!

30. What was your favourite film of this year?

That's a hard one. Really enjoyed the second Hobbit film and the Thor/Avengers, Iron Man stuff

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

i got up late, opened my birthday presents and went out for dinner at Jamie's Italian. Good food and the staff spoiled me rotten! Lots of birthday wishes on phone, text & Facebook. i'm 66, cheeky!

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?

i'm having trouble coming up with anything... apart from lots of money/winning the Lottery. That reminds me of my favourite Jewish joke. Samuel moaned and berated God for not helping him win the lottery every week for years, until God finally spoke to him, saying 'Samuel, meet me half way, buy a ticket!"

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2013?

Huh? i don't follow fashion per se, but will buy what is in 'fashion', if it actually suits me.

34. What kept you sane?

Reading, i guess - but define 'sane'?

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?

Tom Hiddleston, and Tom Wlaschiha [of course]

36. What political issue stirred you the most?

i'm with Kazzy Cee - the attempted and continued destruction of the NHS...and the insane immigration policy!

37. Who did you miss?

Literally or metaphorically? Some of the people no longer in my life and some not close enough to visit

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Don't meet that many new people any more, so can't help you there

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2013.

Sorry, drawing a blank on that one... i continue to be grateful for what i've got and that i'm still alive. Not sure there are many more lessons to learn at this stage of my life - tempting fate to say that maybe!

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.

"When I'm 64" ?

Will you still need me, will you still feed me, when i'm 64?

Cameron just makes me seethe lately - I think my blood pressure regarding all the idiotic govt. things has definitely not improved during 2013!!

i do SO know what you mean - when Glad-Hand Cameron says things like 'the Government will pledge' - oi! mate! That's OUR money your throwing around! Does he think there is a magic pool filling under the damned money tree??? i get so CROSS when he starts on, and want to slap him and kick his ass - I DID NOT give him carte blanche to give our money away to strangers! And don't get me started on the murder of the NHS... *grinds teeth*

I luv that joke! :D The old ones are the best... ;)

I agree on all you say about the government...idiots. There's nobody else to vote for though as I hates Labour too. :(

i know what you mean, i hate the two party political system. That's why i vote LibDem and have done for over 25 years now. i saw how they pulled the Canadian politic together and it was gaining momentum in Australia and i thought 'good-oh, another iron in the fire'. We have a LibDem run Council, even though it's majorly Labour, at least the MP is [yeah, i know, it's confusing, isn't it?] and even though they have to work with the STUPID Government, they usually manage to keep the accounts in the black; no mean feat today! That aside, there really isn't a lot to choose between any of them, they're all just politicians when it boils down, loving the hype, the money and the power. So i guess you pays your money and takes your choice, as usual!
