Monday, 24th December 2018 - Part 2

okay back for the second Christmas meme

1. Egg nog or hot chocolate?
i don't remember having egg nog - i do like Advocat though, is that the same? i love hot chocolate - restricted now unfortunately.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or just sit them under the tree?
We had wrapped presents under the tree all through my 'family' years, even with Mum. i so rarely have presents now; just one or two from friends, and rarely a tree.

3. Coloured or white lights?
I like most lights and have a set of blue ones that go round my wall-bookcases. They live up there permanently - too much trouble to put up and take down annually, but they are only on during the festive season. i turn them off when i feel like it - sometimes they are on for a month or two!

4. Do you hang a mistletoe?

There's only me here and no visitors - certainly none i would want to kiss!

5. When do you put your decorations up?

We used to put up all the Christmas decorations and tree on my birthday, and that 10-day grace left us room for anything else that needed doing. i did that for me and Mum but rarely bothered after she died. i have very little up just for me, but have Santa & Snowman figures on either side of the TV and a wreath on the front door. i have a new one inside on the lounge door this year, very much in the 'shabby-chic' mode and a fabric covered star on the bedroom door. i do still have a tree, wrapped up in my storage cupboard, should i feel the need!

6. What is your favourite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?

I love all the trimmings with my little turkey crown - roast potatoes & carrots, maybe peas; parsnips if i have any and some good gravy. Also those little pigs in blankets - not sure if i have some stuffing in the freezer, must have a look. My little bit of turkey is in the fridge defrosting as we speak!

7. Favourite holiday memory as a child?
From small children, we had to wait until we could get Dad out of bed! Mum was more amenable but coffee all round to wake them up. *usually the water was vile for tea*

Later in our teen years, Dad would cook breakfast on holidays and put on the Capriccio Italian to get us up - all lovely trumpets etc. i loved that

8. When and how did you learn the truth about Santa?
Never was a secret and not very relevant to us. We knew about the myth of course but it didn't affect our Christmas

9. Do you open a gift on Christmas Eve?

We saved everything for Christmas day and if i have any today, i usually save it.
This year i have opened the gift from my friend in USA, as i was pretty sure i knew what it was and regretfully, i was right. Nice thought but what would i do with yet another religious tract? She sent me the same sort of stuff last year but it's a bit too late in the day to try and 'convert' me at 71, doncha think?! i shall have to send her a message and say, nicely, stop sending them and save your money. i only throw them out in the bin. It's all about prophecies and Daniel this year, such claptrap and rubbish. Sorry, if you are religious but i'm not. Lovely paper and ribbon though and a golden star to hang up, but hardly a gift. i'm not sure what has set her off on this religious kick, maybe it was always there but not prominent and getting older is weighing on her? Her very nice husband is some years older than she. Maybe that's it.

She did send me a birthday gift, which was a very nice necklace and matching earrings, so i can thank them for that, thankfully.

10. How do you decorate your tree?
It had all the tinsel, baubles etc you could wish for, but not any more

11. Snow - love it or hate it?

i do like snow i must admit, but not when it freezes. Too dangerous for old bones

12. Can you ice skate?
No, no snow in Far or Middle East and no rinks. i did learn to roller skate in my teens and enjoyed that - though it was around the area where we lived.

13. Do you remember your favourite gift?
No, not really. They were all good

14. What is your favourite holiday dessert?

i don't really have a favourite dessert. It depends on how i feel and what's on the menu. i don't like Christmas pudding at all, too heavy for me, or the sauces that go with it, although i do like custard - on my apple pie or crumble!

15. What's the most important things about the holidays?

It used to be a good break from work, as i so rarely had a job i liked. Now said holidays are just ordinary days since my retirement - HOORAY!! Every day is a holiday!

16. What is your favourite holiday tradition?

It used to be getting up when i wanted, without an alarm, and going to bed when i wanted.

17. What tops your Christmas tree?

It is usually a star now, though we had an angel for years

18. Which do you prefer, giving or receiving?

i do like presents but i prefer the giving if i had to choose

19. Favourite Christmas song?
i think it's the Coventry Carol, which i don't really count as a 'carol' as it isn't exactly Christmassy, if you know what i mean. So The Holly and the Ivy would be it, closely followed by O Tanenbaum

20. Favourite Christmas movie?

i'm such a sad sack! i don't have a 'Christmas' movie - i'd rather watch a DVD of 'Noggin the Nog' ! or binge watch Anthony Bourdain's 'Layovers'

21. What do you leave for Santa?

Poor man doesn't get a look-in, babe!

Have a good one, all!

It’s hard to find room for decorations in a flat. Have a good day today Jill!
