Spring Fever - Part 1 - Soho

O-kay…………I'm going to do a section on each event for Spring Fever, which hopefully will make it easier to read and give me leeway to pop in the odd photo.

like that…   Jamesrocks, Yoga Lady & Greenlady…  Aren't they lovely?  Yell, if you want me to take any down if I have your face on it, yeah??  Love the serious 'bling' round Nancy's neck!

So, to start at the beginning;  Wednesday morning 2nd May, 2007, catching the train down to Kings Cross and all went well.  Taxi & train on time, no hassles and train direct, no stops, very cool…  THEN I find I'm hiking down the damn road, muttering curses under my breath & lurching like a pregnant penguin, trying to find the Underground… road & train works chewing up the road & pavements for a new tunnel [Channel connection?] – but once I find it, again no problem… just slow getting on.   Only one or two people on the platform when I arrived but in the 10-15 minutes we waited, you would not have believed how much it filled up!!  I said to the man next to me, "We're not all going to fit on the train!" and he laughed and said there would be enough carriages.

We then indulged in the afternoon pastime of Mouse Watching…  little grey mice exactly the same colour as the dust and the train tracks, scurrying around looking for food, I guess…   The dust always gets to me and when we had crammed onto the train, I spent the trip [mercifully short] dry hacking myself slightly hoarse.

I'd done my homework and getting off at Angel, Islington, nipped across the road to catch a bus up Essex Road to our hotel, the Elena.   Oyster cards rule!!

Bus stop across the road, couldn't have been sweeter.

Quite a few of us booked in there which was really nice – especially when I found two of my favourite photographers next door, Pandis & Vampgaia and two upstairs, Mrs T & Chrisuk.  Downstairs, we had the American contingent, Yoga Lady, Grey Sunrise, Greenlady and Pan [delightful lady]…  We had a quick drink in a pub – way down the road! – but had a laugh over a taxidermist's shop over the road, called, yes, 'Get Stuffed'… if I'd had my camera with me, I'd have had them all line up outside!!

My roomie, the delightful Jamesrocks, was delayed waiting for hubby coming home from an overseas trip but managed to join me at the Soho/Bordello gig.  The Hotel was notoriously light on room keys and as I had ours with me, they had to get the maid's keys to let her in when she arrived!  I never did that again!!

Most of the above jumped onto the bus, 2 minutes down the road, and walked through from Shaftsbury Avenue to Brewer Street [Thanks to Pandis & Ginger's  rekkys] and found a huge banner floating above the entrance to the little entrance alley.  Some joined the queue and others sampled the goodies in the shops – Himber spotted browsing too!!   I checked in with Lisa at the door and she said come back ½ before we start, so Ginger, Lene & myself had no rush and decided to have a bite before we went in.   Nice little Italian three doors down, La Perla and pretty reasonable too.   I had some very nice ravioli & a tomato salad.  Phone calls from Sue telling me of her progress punctuated the meal and it became obvious that she wouldn't make it before we went in, so Lene kindly followed me up the stairs and made sure I didn't fall ass over teakettle back down…

I slid into the first left-hand booth and reckoned I had a good view over the tables, as it was a tiny club.  Lisa, poor love, had been assured by the Club management that they could fit the required number of tables onto the pocket-handkerchief dance floor and they LIED!!  She was sweating blood, trying to shoehorn everyone in and some gals actually sat on the steps up to the little pole dancing platforms and on the platform themselves – Jean sat up there for some time and said she had a great view.  But we were very cramped – not JMLive's fault though…

When the disabled had been helped in, the rest of the audience were then allowed in and an orderly stampede was pretty shortlived.  I saw StretfordDitto, Dee-Dee, Ulla, Jude & Mary, Pocket-Pixie, Chryssie, Chrisspike and a host of others…

After a short wait, Lisa makes a couple of announcements and turned to bring James on and he did his coming-on-behind-her trick, little tinker…

Damn, he looked GOOD, very good… Black tee, black jeans and the soft black zip-jacket with the red stripe, he wore in Bristol.

He looked happy, relaxed and toned.   He sang new and old songs and I liked the new stuff a lot.  Over the next two days, I noted new chords on old songs and tighter phrasing and fingering – bear in mind I hadn't seen him for almost a year and a half…  Man, has he improved….a lot.

He was obviously enjoying himself and when he divested himself of the jacket, he mentioned 'stripping' it off and I couldn't resist calling out, "You're in the right place for it" – he laughed, saying "Yeah!", twitched his eyebrows at the front row and said, "That's it" and we all laughed.   Good but short set list, 'bout an hour.

My little camera really wasn't up to the lighting…

Jean chatted up his sound man on the way out and James had said how much he'd enjoyed this as a nice way to start off the tour…  We didn't get much more out of him, except that he liked & admired James, but he was a sweetie.

We all sat around waiting for the promised Tranny show but come 11pm still nothing but a couple of dancers on the poles – fully dressed & pretty good but tame [especially in light of what went on later, we're told!] – anyhow somebody eventually asked what time and the conservative estimate was about midnight [it was 1am actually].  We had hungry girls and decided to call it quits – about half the audience stayed but we took off.   We checked out the Italian we'd gone to but they were closing up, so we cabbed it back to the Hotel, cracked open a bottle of red I'd brought with me, had some nibbles and nattered until Susie's eyes shut of their own accord.

JJ & Cousin Grizz waiting up to meet the girls – who promptly stripped Grizz, to his shock!!  When I stopped laughing, I hit the sheets around 2.30am.

Susie, the ol' bag, Ro & Nancy…  gad, I look awful… my hair looks as flat as a pancake (Thank heavens James couldn't see me!) but the new stencil for the tats works well…

*hugs* I miss everyone already!

I got back and had to go straight back to work. (Why wasn't I born rich?!?!) Three more days working, then I'm off for a week. (Love the 7 on/7 off schedule.) I'll get my photos up then.

i know how you feel... you wish it could kinda go on forever, with the seeing James everyday and hanging out with your friends.

i just wish i had work to go back TO!! Got another job interview next week, bit far out but what the hell, just pay me, i'll be happy! But i'll keep soldiering on.. and start dropping money in a jar for next year!!

Looking forward to your pictures, petal!

Hi, Jill!

Thank You for a good time. You got home safe and so did I. But that damn work is really disturbing. I want to sit at the ´puter and edit yammy jimmy.pic´s, instead of making paper, grr!

Working nightshift and enjoying my sparetime by checking out all the reports from London/MK... It´s like beeing there again, nice.
Can´t see half of your pic´s, but that´s because of our censors at the IT-department, Flickr and Photobucket is a big no no. So I chose PBase for my piccies, can upload the stuff into the InBox at home and then organize them at work!

The usual "after James" depression hasn´t appeared this time, I guess the promise of the CD for Christmas kind of saved me. And I have my James-bible to drool over!

Well, I´ll be back and check out the rest of the reports when you post them!
Back to coughing my lungs out. I think I got bronchitis, but just one more nightshift, then I have 11 days off, yippii!
I was sick after the JM& Friends, too. All those foreign viruses just love me. Have to work now,

Bye and thank´s for the report again!

i'm glad you got home safe, i always keep my fingers crossed for everyone who flies in...or any form of transport really! i got lucky this time and Jude took me home - not only did i have someone to wind-down with and talk over the week but a door-to-door service too - Free! luxury!!
i've no idea why you can't see some of my pics, as they have all come directly from my computer, not through anywhere... but you aren't the only person to say so. Is it only some? how many can you see? *scratches head in puzzlement*
Sorry to hear you're not well, but have to say i'm fine... Sounds as though some of our overseas visitors got a touch of the 'chesties' but that can be normal visiting other countries...
Second part of Report will be up today.
*Blows kiss* Take care of yourself, petal.

Has to be something with the size of the pic´s The smaller ones are OK, but the Biggies has the damn red cross instead of piccie. Limitations for the file-size, maybe?

You think the weather here should be as cold and damp as London, but I guess there are some viruses/bacteria just waiting to jump us foreigners ;O)
Working the last night-shift, then I have 4 days off... I think I´ll try to get some antibiotics tomorrow so everything clears up... I like to breath properly LOL!

"Luckily" Bonnies paws are still sore, so we can´t take any 2-hour walks as usual. She made a Lassie and ran away from the dogsitter the night I was due home, like 2 hours before I arrived. After behaving like an angel the whole week. A guest didn´t close the gate and she ran out on the main street and chased a car down to the centre of the village ( her paws looked like raw meat after that!). She is incredibly fast! Then Hele, my dogsitter caught her on the street leading to my place. It´s like the end of the Lassie-movie from the 40´s,Lassie struggling to get home. Parhaps she missed me?
Then she couldn´s put any weigh on her frontpaws for 2 days + I had to give her painkillers, poor pooch! AND carry her out to pee, she weighs 23 kg´s! She is still wearing protective dog-shoes but the paws are healing. So I´ve been able to edit photos with her lying on a sheepskin under the worktable...
May. 14th, 2007 02:20 am (UTC)
Dunno about the photos, they are all the same size... *scratches head*
Sorry to hear about Bonnie - carrying a dog that size?? yikes!! poor you and poor her... but you are home now..
May. 13th, 2007 05:42 am (UTC)
You looked great, as did the tats. :) Look forward to reading more...I've been trying to post my MK report for days. Can't quite get it right..lost track of what we did when. :D Wish I was back there.
May. 13th, 2007 09:12 am (UTC)
Thank you, love, but you know i'm not going to agree with you!! i do like the new tats tho'
Second part coming up. It is hard to concentrate and remember what bit came where and i usually write up a journal to help with the details - got kinda distracted this time!! but did take some notes... Luckily, i have a retentive memory and most times when i start to think back, it unfolds like a film... good, eh??
*note to self, start saving immediately* When i went to say goodbye, i said remember to come back next year and James told me firmly he definitely would... i came out smiling through my tears... dunno why, i always cry the last time i see him *emotional old bag..*
i'll look forward to reading Your report, love!
May. 13th, 2007 09:15 am (UTC)
I only cried when listening to the song he wrote for his son...that got to me. Yay he's coming back next year. Must start saving for sure. We spent a fortune!
May. 13th, 2007 09:29 am (UTC)
oh i know!! spent £145 on autographs alone! i'm SO glad i sold stuff on EBay and got some cash; it was worth the hassle... *sigh* Guess that means, i got to try again and see what else i can sell...
*rummages for a large container to use as piggy bank*
May. 13th, 2007 10:53 am (UTC)
Buh...loody hell! £145! Now that's what a I call dedicated. :D I want to do that, but my sisters thought £20 was a bit much and so DeeDee loaned me £20 for another one. She's a diamond is DeeDee. Like you say worth every single penny. ::buys a piggy bank at the car boot::
May. 13th, 2007 05:44 pm (UTC)
Oh for some that money was peanuts... Some folks had between 6-8 photos with just James, and then some with Tony and then the autographs!!
Salchli alone had how many?? and they were wonderful...
May. 13th, 2007 06:00 pm (UTC)
I luf Salchli's photos! James is wonderful with him. We did have six pix but it was between me and my sisters...I need to win the UK Lotto!
May. 13th, 2007 08:13 am (UTC)
Great report - I love how you write!

Maybe it´s just me, but I can´t see half of your pictures though... *sob*
May. 13th, 2007 09:24 am (UTC)
Hel-lo!! how're you doin'??
Yes, i'm hearing that, no idea why - none of my pics are up anywhere but my computer - i might put them all on Snapfish [old photobucket]or one of them, i'll see...
So what are you up to??
May. 13th, 2007 12:45 pm (UTC)
Nice to see you here - not up to anything besides finding a new job and trying to keep myself busy in the meantime. Try to stay away from JM, the fandom and any concerts (also because of the lack of money, but still nice to hear reports like this ever once in a while.

Do you have any form of messenger on your computer? Send me a mail at jeanette150179@yahoo.com and we can chat more, honey!

Miss you!
May. 13th, 2007 06:02 pm (UTC)
i have MSN messenger and i will give you a call - give me a little to get these reports finished and the photos put up online, yeah?? take care...
May. 13th, 2007 04:22 pm (UTC)
Hi hon. I can see the pics just fine. I wish I could have been there with all of you. But thank you for your report- it makes it so I can imagine being there. I think you all look wonderful. And yes- bling bling around Nancy. Also saw your photo op with Mrs. T and James. So cute. Wow- Mrs. T's hair- she did post it was bright.

I can't wait to hear the rest of your report. From the things that I have read- James seems in a really good place now, and he looks absolutely fantastic. I hope he's still all huggy and cuddly in July when I see him. Wish you guys were coming over for that. I'll have to start saving up AGAIN, for another UK event. Damn- that man is an expensive "hobby". ;)
May. 13th, 2007 05:55 pm (UTC)
He is in fine fettle right now, happy & relaxed and full of hugs and warmth.... but then he loves us, don't he?? oh YES...
i wish i was coming over too - if i had enough i'd come to every one... If there is one thing i have learned in this life, it is that the only money i am going to see is what i hustle myself... even my mother's house was what the Americans call a trailer and i saw very little money for it, if you know what i mean...
Yes, i would have saved more of the money, if i had known what the future held and i could have spent it on James but if i had those sorts of visionary powers, i'd BE bloody rich, wouldn't i???
Have a wonderful time at Fangoria...
May. 13th, 2007 05:49 pm (UTC)
Every one looks great, smiling and having a good time. I'm sorry I missed seeing you all, but really grateful for all the pics and reports. Hearing about it all has me starting to rev up for the east coast events at the end of June.
I'm another one who can only see a few of the pics.... GRRRRR! Computers ##(&*&^&%^*(((&^%!!

May. 13th, 2007 05:59 pm (UTC)
OK THAT TEARS IT!! i will put my pics up online elsewhere and post the link!

i hope you wonderful time in June and he is still on the top of his game... keep badgering him to record the second CD, we have done the spadework! He thinks we have given him enough courage and encouragement to get back into the studio, so keep it up!
Take good care of yourself, Sami love

Reply from Nancy (Greenlady)
Hi there! Sorry I don't have a Livejournal and am not really up on how to use or post to them. I hope this posts properly!

Lovely piccies, Jill. (Yes, I could see them all!) Sigh--I haven't posted much on the boards since coming back, but what a week! It was so much fun seeing all you girls again. And that Marsters guy wasn't half bad, now, was he?

Sheesh--that man just killed me this time. He's simply never been better. I've been smiling to myself about the songs, his singing, his playing, his "cuddly-ness". James seemed more confident as a singer/player/songwriter than I'd ever seen him before, and it showed in every one of his performances. It seems that everything going on inside him seems to come out in his live performances, so I am really glad it all seems to be coming together for him. A happy James makes for happy fangirlies! Tee hee.

Glad everyone got home safe and sound. I got the opportunity to switch to a direct flight at the last minute, so this girl was definitely doing the happy dance. I never missed the 4-hour layover in DC! LOL

Hugs to you, Jill, and to everyone else! *waves and blows numerous kisses*

Re: Reply from Nancy (Greenlady)
Hi sweetie!
How nice to hear from you! Yes, you have posted just fine. i do so agree that James is really doing so well just now and i was delighted to be able to tell him how well he'd done since i heard him last. He looked pleased and i said please come back next year and he said very seriously, oh yeah i will.
i'm delighted you got a direct flight, it does make quite a difference, doesn't it? Having to hang about in airport lounges is the pits and the part of travelling i don't like, unless i have company... i never travel with a couple of books!
Real glad you are home safe, girlie...
i will look forward to seeing you next year xxx
